BASKETBALL REFEREES.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION.

SECOND ANNUAL DANCE.

The lounge and ballroom- of the Rialto were exceptionally well decorated last evening, when the Auckland Basketball Referees' Association held their second annual dance. Festoons of foliage and the association's colours, blue and white, were used with effect round the walls and across the ceiling, -while an enlaiged replica of a blue and silver basketball and the letterings of the association in silver, were suspended in front of the orchestral dais. The lounge was arranged for non-dancers, and was bright in the same effective colourings. During a dancing interval, a musical item was rendered by Miss Collier, and an enjoyable exhibition of tap dancing by Miss Ruby Sherriff. The guests were received by the president, Miss G. Miles, who wore a gown of black Mechlin lace, threaded with silver.

Among those present were:—Mrs. J. O'Shea, in a primrose flowered ninon; Airs. D. Harlen, in black mirror velvet; Mrs. W. Wymore, black flat crepe and dark cherry sash; Mrs. B. Thomas, midnight blue taffeta; Mre.- H. S. Collier, gold flowered'satin; Mrs. L. Stevenson, sao-e rrreen georgette; Mrs. A. Bromley, lace; Mrs. R. S. Rawson, black mirror velvet; Miss D. Crouch, cerise glace silk, trimmed with silver; Miss Lorraine Bartleet, Lido blue crepe and silver tissue; Miss D. Hawthorne, blue suede and silver lame; Mies Johnson, white lace; Miss M. Johnson, turquoise blue tulle; Miss C. Melville, black blister satin and silver;' Miss D. Dale, pastel pink chiffon; Miss Daphne Thomassen, fuchsia toned glace silk; Miss F. Smith, Marina blue lace; Miss D. Thornton, daffodil floral ninon; Miss Oliver Thomassen, cameo pink pebble crepe; Miss Hunt, black silk velvet and silver; Miss S. Walker, white patterned georgette.

The ladies' committee responsible for the enjoyable evening were: Mrs.' D. Harlen, Misses G. Miles, E. Hunt, P. Smith, D. Crouch, Glover, Terry, Neill, J. Neill, M. Browne, X. Mowlem, IST. Skeene, C.
