EXPORT MEAT TRADE.
NINE MONTHS' RETURNS. Shipments of frozen and chilled meat from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the nine months from October 1 to June 30 in recent years have been as follow:— 1933-34. 1034-35. 1935-36. Carcases — ' Umb 0,844,834 7,494,924 6,474.592 Mutton .. . 1,160,410 1,517,839 1,320,442 Pig 323,600 453,020 404,550 Quarters — Beef, frozen 370,114 285,900 148,22S Beef, chilled 15,118 40,207 112,100 BagsBeef, boneless 212,614 200,471 153,821 These returns show a substantial falling off in the exports of lamb and mutton, and also frozen quarters and boneless beef. Increases are shown in pigs and chilled beef. The reduction in lamb shipments should be lessened before the season closes, as there were at June 30 over 440,000 carcases still in New Zealand awaiting shipment.
