ON 'CHANGE.

MARKET IS STEADY

QUIET THIS MORNING. A fair volume of business lias been transacted on 'Change over the past 24 hours, but the tone was rather quiet this morning when eight sales were recorded, only one in the room. Bidding was restrained in most sections. In the banking class Commercials failed to hold the full extent of the latest rise, and changed hands a penny lower, at 18/9, with a subsequent market between 18/8 and 18/10. New Zealands eased 2d, with business at £2 0/3, and later quotations from £2 0/2 to £2 0/8. Insurances were quiet at late rates. Woolworths (N.Z.) came closer to business when buyers moved up to £5 9/, and sellers dropped a shilling, to £5 14/. Australian issues were quoted as freely as usual, but values were not greatly changed, though Coles were offered at £3 IS/9 without response from buyers. Government stocks were firm, and _ '55's changed hands 10/ better, at £103 2/6. Mortgage Corporation bonds were on otter at £98, with no buyers. Australian Issues Easier. Values were easier at noon in a number of industrials, but little business was done. Bycrofts, however, maintained their level, and closed between £ 1 19/ and £2 2/. Woolworths (pref.) gained 1/3. The tone in Australian shares was indicated by a reduction of 6d in Australian Glass. For Bank of New Zealand limits were revised to £2 0/3 and £2 0/7. There was a sharp increase in offers for 15.l 5 . and O. deferred stock, buyers coming in at £1 S/2, while holders asked £1 8/9.
