DEATH OF TIN-WORKER

RESULT OF ACCIDENT.

BURNS FROM CAUSTIC SODA. As a result of burns and shock sustained when lie fell into a vat of hot caustic soda yesterday morning. Mr. Leslie Russell, aged 20, married, of 3isa, St. Mary's Road, Ponsonby, died at 7.30 this morning in the Auckland Hospital. Mr. Russell, an employee of Alexander Harvey and Sons, Limited, ill Albert Street, was working at a vat containing hot caustic soda. He was wearing rubber boots and was standing on a wet floor, and by some means he fell into the vat. His escape from more terrible injury was due to the prompt assistance of other employees, who hosed him to prevent the socla from eating into the skin. An inquest was opened before the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., this afternoon.
