SOCIAL EVENING.
1 / —— SOCIETY OF ST. GEORGE. | The recently-formed Auckland branch of the Royal Society of St. George held its first monthly At Home in the Penwomen's Club rooms last evening, when there was a large gathering of members and friends. Scarlet and white paper roses made appropriate decoration in the rooms, while the flag and banner of St. George, which were placed in a prominent position, added to the effect. A programme of high standard was presented, and included a Maori welcome sung by Mrs. Maki Takapuna, elocutionary items by Miss Dorcen Saunders, songs by Miss Rita McCullay, Mr. R. Richards, Mrs. G. Nicholson and Mr. 0. Mason, a Russian dance by little Valerie Morton, and a vocal solo by Mrs. Gill, who was accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Whitehead, with Miss Mimro playing the violin obl'gato. A musical play was presented by Mrs. C. Stormont, Mrs. R. E. M. Matthews and Mrs. E. Ashcr. Modern and old-time dance music was supplied by the Columbians Band. Among those present were: Mesdames P. Heath Preest. Nelson Speary, Hugh Kaspcr, F. H. Gilford, E. Barrett, G. Clark, G. Reid, G. Brown, F. E. Bell, T. F. Lowes, A. Petty, F. H. Allen, M. Phillips, G. Shcrwin, A. Newdick, W. Morrison, M. Marks, R. Stone, W. S. Tongue, Whitford Waugh, J. Jebb, E. Asher, R. E. Matthews, J. Jones, C. H. Hankin, H. Pickering, G. Nicholson, A. Blomfield, J. K. Black, W. McDowell, S. A. Brown, Burton, H. Miller, G. Presling, J. Smith, Misses D. Bell, Brenda Brown, Josie Preest, Peggy Lowes, Doris Dignan, Joan Gifford, Zoe Thompson, Ann Levick and B. Smith.
