PERSONAL.

Sir George Elliot left for Wellington by the Limited express last night. The Hon.- E. Dye, M.L.C., arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from the South. Mr. H. A. Beaueliamp, managing director of Kodak (New Zealand), Ltd., is at the Grand Hotel. Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Command, left for Wellington by train yesterday. Mr. I'. Ferner, Mayor of Mount Albert, was congratulated upon his appointment as a stipendiary magistrate in a resolution passed last evening by the One Tree Hill Borough Council. Mr. C. R. Barnicoat, of the staff of the Dairy Research Institute, Palmerston North, will leave shortly for the United States under a Commonwealth Fellowship entitling him to two years' research or advanced study abroad. Colonel P. F. Chapman, of Scotland, a retired officer of the Indian Medical Service, and Mrs. Chapman, who have spent several months in the Dominion, are at Hotel Cargen. They will leave en route for India by the Marama tomorrow. Mr. J. E. Winter, accountant in the Thnaru branch of the Union Bank of Australia, has been promoted to the managership of the Newton branch of the bank, and will leave to take up his new duties in Auckland towards the end of the month. Mi. W. S. Smith, a prominent member of the King's College Old Boys' Cricket Club, and a member of the Old Boys' Executive for years, left for Wellington en route for England last evening. He will be absent from the Dominion for about 18 months.
