WAR BRIDES' HOLIDAY.
I think it is only right that some assistance should be given these "war brides" towards a trip Home. Both my wife and I are Cockneys, and I brought her out from London, promising to take her back in five years' time for a holiday, but things did not turn out too well, what with the depression, etc. Now nearly 18 years have passed, with 110 chance of getting there owing to the high steamship fares. As "Greytowers" suggests, it could be done on troopship conditions, for when we came home the soldiers almost ran the ship, in the capacity of stewards, etc. The original idea was not to be there for the Coronation, but for a quiet trip Home to see our relatives, or what is left of them, before they pass out. I am glad to see this matter is being taken up, and I hope an abler pen than mine will put some' weight into it. So come 011, you war brides, and boost this thing along. 25/96 RUAPEHU.
