MEDICAL OFFICER.

POST AT HOSPITAL DEPUTY-SUPERINTENDENT. Details of the duties of an assistant medical superintendent to be appointed at the Auckland Hospital were outlined in a report presented to the Hospital Board yesterday afternoon by a special committee set up to consider the matter. One of the duties of the assistant will be to take control of interviews by relatives and friends regarding patients.

The position should be known -is deputy medical superintendent, recommended the committee, and it was to be advertised in New Zealand, Australia and London. No age limit should be specified. 'Tt is undesirable to specify all the duties in detail," the reportstated. "As the appointee will not be fully occupied with the work outlined, he will be expected to assist the medical superintendent in whatever administrative work is allotted to him, with special atention to a daily visitation of patients throughout the wards."

Such duties as have been detailed are: The first duty of the deputy medical superintendent shall be to make himself sufficiently acquainted with the administrative duties pertaining to the office of medical superintendent, so that lie will be able at any time to take over the duties of medical superintendent in the absence of his superior officer; he shall be responsible for the admissions of patients at ail times, and shall arrange for such relief as may be necessary during his hours ofl" duty, after consultation with the medical superintendent; lie shall take control of interviews by relatives and friends regarding patients. In all questions of doubt or difficulty he must confer with the medical superintendent; he shall sec all members of the staff reporting sick, and arrange for their treatment; he shall be the officer in charge of the records department.
