RADIO BEACONS.
NEEDS OF THE PORT.
EARLY INSTALLATION.
SITES ON GULF ISLANDS.
The prospect of the early installation of radio direction beacons on Cuvicr and Moko Hinau Islands was mentioned by the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. C. G. Macindoe, at a meeting of the board yesterday, when referring to a recent visit to Wellington, in the course of which he discussed the matter with the Minister of Marine, the Hon. P. Fraser.
The chairman said that he had found the Minister most sympathetic, and they had had an assurance that the work in Auckland would be pone on wfth when the radio beacon installations near Wellington had been completed.' The chairman said that the mastei of vessels would be very pleased at the step to be taken, and it would make for the safety and efficiency of the port of Auckland. It meant that vessels would be able to come in in all weathers, instead of having to stay outside. There is no port in more need of such an installation, it would be a link with Tiri and vessels would be able to come in at any time. TheyJiad been very pleased with the way that the Mimstei had taken the matter up.
