A PARK IN THE HILLS.
The proposal to build a scenic roadway through the Waitakeres has met with enthusiastic support from the local authorities, and the City Council has thrown its full weight behind the plan. That decision, coupled with the offer of the Bruce trustees of £1000 towards the cost of acquiring land in the ranges for a National Park, should act as a very decided stimulus to all who have supported the provision of a park among the hills and along the West Coast as a fitting method of celebrating the Centenary of the Dominion. If the whole bush area is set apart as a recreation ground for the people, many beautiful tracks could be made branching off to the many points of interest in the hills. These would provide a wonderful playground for hiker and camper, and the full benefits of the expenditure on the main road thus secured. It is hoped, now that the nucleus of a fund has been provided, that those who have expressed their interest in the plan will take immediate steps to bring it to friition. *
