THE OPPOSITION.
"NO DEFEATIST ATTITUDE." CRITICISM WHERE WARRANTED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Keporter.) WELLINGTON, tliis day. "Tlie Opposition will continue to point out to the people of the Dominion any weaknesses in the Government's legislation," remarked the Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, to-dav. Mr. Forbes intimated that the Opposition would not by any means take up a defeatist attitude, and in spite of the (iovernment's large majority in the House, would criticise legislation where it thought such criticism was warranted. "I see there is no reference to the taxing bill," he said, referring to the list of measures the Government intended to bring down. "That is the bill the people are waiting for. The Government must surely have one in mind, but apparently they are keeping it in the background at present." The majority of the members of the Opposition have not yet arrived in" Wellington, consequently no caucus has been held. It is probable that the Nationalists will hold a caucus to-morrow morning.
