PARKING LIMITS.
SCHEME ADHERED TO.
ASSOCIATION'S PROTEST,
Though the Automobile Association (Auckland) and other bodies wrote protesting against the proposed by-laws restricting parking, the Auckland City Council decided last evening to adhere to the schedule of parking limits adopted by the council in June. The Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society wrote protesting against the new by-law and asking that if it was enforced, the provision should be made for parking facilities for shoppers in and around Karangahape Road.
The Auckland Retail Drapers, Milliners, Mercers and Clothers' Industrial Union of Employers suggested that the enforcement of the by-law should be deferred until facilities for parking had been provided within reasonable distance of the principal shopping centres.
"I still think they are too drastic" said Mr/L. J. Coakley, in urging that sufficient consideration had not been given to the interests of Queen Street and Karangahape Road.
Mr. H. P. Burton urged also that consideration should have been given to the objections. His motion that the report should be referred back to the by-laws committee again was defeated.
