ISLAND ORANGES ARRIVE,

There was ;i fair demand to-day for applets, pears and good quality grapefruit. Tree tomatoes sold well, also oranges and mandarins, but lemons were rather slow of sale and pines were in little demand. Hothouse tomatoes had a slightly bettei inquiry. A fresh shipment of Cook Islanu oranges arrived yesterday by the \\ aiotapu. Xlie fruit was in very good condition and met a very fair demand al-to-day's sales. The usual large shipment t.f Fiji bananas for the month is expected by tlie Monowai. Quotations were:— Apples: Delicious, 3/ to 5/6 per case; Ballarat, 6/ to 7/; Dougherty, 3/ to o/; Granny Smith, 5/ to 8/; Jonathan, 6/ to 8/0: Munro, 4/ to 5/; Rome Beauty, 4/ to 5/6; Stunner, 5/ to 8/; Wmcsap, 0/ to S/6 Pears: Keilfers, 4/ to 6/; Winter Coles and Winter Nelis, 6/ to 8/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 6(1 to 1/1% per lb. J.ree tomatoes: New Black. 4/6 to 6/ per case, yellow, 4/ to 5/6. Oranges: Australian, 17/ to 21/; Cook Islands, 14/ to 20/ (repacks). Grapefruit: New Zealand, extra choice, 0/ to 8/; others, 3/ to 5/; Cahrornian, 32/0. Lemons: Choice cured, 0/ to 9/; others, 3/ to 5/. Mandarins: Austvai lian, 31/. Pines: Queensland, 10/ to 10/(j. Vegetables. Heavy supplies of cabbage were marketed t'o-day, but prices kept on about the same level as last week. Cauliflower was also in good supply at last week's rates. Onions came forward in large quantities, with a firmer tendency for choice lines. Parsnips were still very cheap and carrots were much more plentiful, with prices lower. Celery was also very plentiful, but choice quality lines were a little firmer in price. Ohakune Brussels sprouts are now nearly finished and prices were lower 011 account of the poorer quality. Quotations were: — Beet. 6d to 1/3 per dozen; celery, cooking, 4(1 to 9(1 per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 2/4; carrots, Bcl to 1/3 per dozen; cauliflowers, 3/ to 6/6 per sack; on benches, 1/ to 2/6 per dozen; cabbages, 1/ to 6/6 per sack; on benches, 9(1 to 1/6 per dozen; cucumbers, hothouse, 3/ to 5/; French beans, hothouse, 6d to l/_ per lb; green pears, 9(1 to 1/; kumaras, 5/ to 8/6 per bag; leeks, 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; lettuce, 2/ to 7/6 per case; marrows, 1/6 to 2/6 per dozen; onions, Pukekohe, 2/6 to 4/ per bag; Californian, 12/ per cental; potatoes. Southern, 7/ to 8/ per cwt; Ohakune. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was fair and the demand was fairlv keen. The prices paid remained practically unaltered. Selling rates weve as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 4/3 to 6/3 each; not prime, 2/3 up; light breeds, prime, 2/9 to 4/; not prime, 1/6 up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/ to 3/; light breeds, 1/6 to '2/. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/3. Pullets'. Heavy breeds, best, 3/6 to 4/6; smaller. 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 2/6 to 4/: smaller, 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 2/ to 3/; smaller, 1/6 to 2/; old, 1/6 to 2/3. Ducks: Young: 2/G to 3/6; old, 1/6 to 2/3. Guinea fowls: 3/ to 4/. Butter and Eggs. A fall of Id has occurred in all egg prices. Hen eggs: First grade, 1/5% per dozen; B grade. 1/4%; C grade, 1/1%. Duck eggs: First grade, 1/5% per dozen; li grade, 1/4%; C grade, 1/2%. Farmers' butter, 1/ to 1/3 per lb.
