WAITAKERE RANGES PLAN. £1000 OFFERED TO CITY. "This generous offer only reached me to-day, and I am sure you will all appreciate it," said the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, at a meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening, when an offer of £1000 as a contribution towards the purchase price of the Waitakere Ranges for a National Park to celebrate the coronation ,of King Edward was received from Mr. F. F. Hocklev. who wrote *o the council on behalf of the trustees of the estate of the late Robert Cunningham Bruce. Mr. Hockley commended the scheme and, in presenting the offer, said that the question of ways and means of carrying it out seemed now to be the paramount consideration. "I do now know if you propose to ask for. contributions from people individually, but I feel sure that tlier°, are many who would like to have the satisfaction of contributing personally to so splendid a project," he said. ... • r . The only stipulation in connection with the offered contribution was that the money should be useel towards the purchase of the area and not for the purpose of forming the proposed drive. The offer was referred to the finance committee for consideration and report.
