POOR SHOOTING.
SINKING OF YACHT. Submarine Fires on French Seaside Resort. HOLIDAY-MAKERS' FRIGHT. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 12.30 p.m.) PARIS, July 19. Thousands of holiday-makers at the seaside resort of St. Tropex, who were interestedly watching the French submarine Atalante attempting to sink a blazing yacht, . the Hippocampe, fled panic-stricken when shells began to land among them. The Hippocampe, laden with four tons of petrol, had caught fire, menacing harbour craft, and the Atalante, responding to the owners' appeals, had tried to tow her to the open sea. She had broken loose, whereupon the Atalante attempted to sink her. Her first shot, from a 75-millimetre gun, landed near the gendarmerie ashore. Her second severed an electric cable and damaged a sawmill, while her third fell on to the beach. The yacht was not scuppered until the eighteenth shot. The Minister of Marine, M. Duparc, has ordered an inquiry immediately the Atalante reaches port.
