WHEAT HARVEST.

CANTERBURY'S BIG YIELD. NEXT SEASON'S PLANTING. The prediction of a high average wheat yield made some weeks ago is being maintained (says the "Christchurch Star-Sun"), for the latest threshing returns show that up to June 25, bushels threshed amounted to 7,619,126, compared with 5.410,557 to the same date last year. This year's average 60 far is 38.74 bushels, as against 27.05 for the corresponding period in 1935. It is difficult to say how 6ome of the wheat still in stack will turn out, and it is also problematical just what area was lost during the floods. There are indications that the area sown in wheat for next harvest will be a little down on last year's, unless there is a very favourable spring.
