FUNCTION AT UNIVERSITY
MODERN DECORATIONS
A modern note was struck in the decorations of the Auckland University College Hall on Saturday evening when the members of the Commerce Society held their twenty-second annual ball. Cut-out designs adorned the stage while at the back a large replica of a globe revolved. A skyscraper and an ocean liner were to be seen in outline on either side of the front of the stage and blue and gold streamers were massed over the heads of the dancers.
The guests were received by Mr. H. R. Rodwell, vice-president of the Commerce Society, and Mrs. Rodwell, wearing royal blue satin; and the student president, Mr. C. D. Robinson, and Mrs. Robinson, wearing Venetian blue taffeta.
Members, of the ladies' committee present were: —Miss Edome King-Mason, who wore mimosa yellow flat crepe; Miss J. Mawhinney, white tree-bark crepe; Miss K. Alison, .black chiffon velvet and white souple satin; and Miss Heleh Coates, sapphire blue georgette.
During the evening a demonstration of tap dancing was given by Miss J. Johnson, Miss Betty Johnson, Miss Dawn Mitchell, Mr. Jock Hutchison and Master Tony McJlanemin. Among those present were: Mrs. H. Belshaw, gold lame and tangerine; Mrs. H. Beauvais, black Chantilly lace; Mrs. L. C. H. Dawson, del blue flat crepe; Mrs. T. Irvine, black Chantilly lace; Mrs. Robinson, Burgundy crepe de chine; Mrs. Tlieo Spry, mulberry georgette; Mrs. N. H. Dixon, black Chantilly lace; Mrs. J. P. Lane, , midnight blue corded silk; Miss'M. Bourne, black ring velvet; Miss Margaret- Shaw, white and rose floral georgette; Miss Cecil Upton, white floral crepe suede; Miss Evelyn Asmuss, liquer green tinsel cloque; Miss Peggy ■Scott Young, black tinsel checked taf-. feta; Miss Joyce Sheath, black taffeta and sequins; Miss Loris Chilwell, black panne velvet; Miss Irene Isaacs, larkspur blue figured niirion;-Miss Mary Grierson, pompadour pink net; MisS 1 Joan Cadness, white -orgajidie;.
