CANCELLED.
PARACHUTE PERMIT. SURPRISE FOR MR. SELLARS. NO REASONS GIVEN. Tlie usual Sunday display of parachuting will not be given by Mr. G. W. Sol lam at the Auckland Aero Club's aerodrome at Mangere to-morrow, bis permit having been withdrawn by the Director of Air Services,« Wing-Com--1111111(101' T. M. Wilkes. On Wednesday last Mr. Sellars received the following letter: —"I have to inform you that the Director of Air Services has instructed me to inform you that the "authority for you to make descents ia cancelled.—Your faithfully, L. M. Isitt, Squadron-Leader, R.N.Z.A.F., 0.C., K.N.Z. Air Force Base, Auckland." Squadron-Leader Isitt stated this morning that, although ho had not heard why Mr. Sellars' permit had been cancelled, lie believed that it was owing to the fact that last Sunday Mr. Sellars fell into an arm of the Manukau Harbour and both his parachutes (two have to be carried, according to regulations) were then soaked with sea water. Mr. Sellars would probably be debarred from using his parachutes until they had been "drop tested." They wtSnld have to be taken •up in an aeroplane and dropped with a heavy weight attached, to ensure that their fabric had not been perished by the salt water.
No reply had been received, up to tliis afternoon, by Mr. Sellars to the letter which he dispatched to Wing-Com-inander Wiikcs on Wednesday, asking why his permit had been cancelled.
