Man Acquitted on Retrial for Manslaughter. THEFT CHARGE ABANDONED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) PERTH, this day. The Crown Law Department decided not to proceed with its charge against Cyril Thomas Brenr.an of having stolen £5000 worth of diamond rings from the shop of Caris Bros., in Perth, in February, 1935, and he was released from custody.. I He had served 11 months of his 10 ' years' sentence on a charge of having i unlawfully killed Edgar Arthur Whitfield, caretaker of the shop. He appealed j unsuccessfully to the State Court of Criminal Appeal against his conviction ; for manslaughter, but the High Court ordered a retrial which ended in Brennan's acquittal this week. j He was immediately rearrested on the ' charge that has now been withdrawn.
