CUT RESTORATION.
CIVIL SERVANTS' POSITION. I DIFFICULTIES REALISED. 1 i The position in regard to restoration of wage cuts to Civil servants was referred to by Mr. F. G. J. Temm, chairman of the executive of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Public Administration, on his return from Wellington. Mr. Temm said that although some public servants might be disappointed .at,the delay in the restoration of cuts, the majority realised the difficulties involved. The Prime Minister had not promised restoration at any particular date, but had promise-;! that the matter would be dealt with during the first session of Parliament. It was considered in Wellington that the proposed tribunal to consider wages and working conditions for railway servants would meet the position. The executive council of railway officers was to meet in Wellington next week, and would deal with the. question of one union for railway employees. RETROSPECTIVE PAY. EAILWAYMEN'S ATTITUDE. (By Telegraph.—Pros? Association.) CHRISTC'HUR CH, Friday. A proposal that the restoration of wages cuts should be made as from April 1- instead of July 1 was discussed to-day at a meeting of between 400 and 500 employees at the Addington railway workshops. A motion was submitted to the meeting expressing disappointment that the railwaymen's organisations had not been able to elicit from the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, a, definite statement in reply to their demand that the restoration of wage 1 cuts should be made retrospective from ; April 1. An amendment to the motion submitted was finally carried, that the < matter should be left to the unions. A i further amendment that the Govern- ; meiit's policy should remain unquestioned for two years was overwhelmingly defeated.
