CYCLING.

WITH THE AMATEURS. LYNNDAIE'S PROGRAMME. Last Saturday, under excellent road racing conditions, the members' of the Northern Cycling Club were -the guests of the Lynndale Club. Large fields were the order of the day, when 15 juniors .and 30 seniors faced the starter. Lynndale having 13 in eacli event. Cliff Morris was the first junior, off 1.45, winning very easily on his own. Cliff lias had a fair amount of success since starting racing this year. He should be prominent in the junior championship on Saturday. Bob Smith was second, having improved out of sight. His handicap was 5.45. In a recent race of the same distance lie had 6.30. Dan Calder was third. He is very keen, and he should have a win before long. In a very fast and even sprint Bert Baldwin prevails over Les. Whyle by Gin for time. Haddon Hawke and Lance Johnstone retired with chain trouble. The most successful senior was Colin R. Gooder (scr). He, along with his comarkers, E. L. G. Hughes, W. T. Wills, S. Alderson, M. Gamble (Northern) and J. Price (Northern), set a torrid pace over the first lap, to set new figures for the lap record. The record now stands to C. R. Gooder with 12.29. The same rider also established a new race record of 51.46, breaking the existing record by 18s. He also was the first Lynndale rider to finish, in fifth position, the Northern Club taking the first fouf placings. Undoubtedly the fine*t sprint of the day was that between the scratch men and the 1.0 men, only inches separating Byrnes, Gooder and Gamble, with Hughes a length further back. M. Byrnes was on 1.0, so Gooder was fastest, with M. Gamble second fastest, and G. Hughes third. On Saturday Lynndale is entering two teams in the Auckland Centre teams' race, the senior personnel being:—A team: Colin R. Gooder (captain), E. L. Graham Hughes, Walter T. Willis and Stan. Alderson, with Gordon Helliwell as reserve. B team: Ernie W. Bates (captain), Len. Farrant, Baillie B. Scott and Arthur Silcock, with Jack Baldwin as reserve. In the teams' race last year the same A team was beaten by Manukau by 7s, anrl this year Lynndale is the only club with the same team intact. On paper the team that beats them should win. The B team should also do well.
