FIRST CRICKET TEST. Indians Fade Out, Vanquished By Nine Wickets, GIMBLETT VERY CONFIDENT. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jane 30. The wicket at Lord's, lor the first Test between England and India, was again saturated this morning, and was rolled with blankets as blotters. The weather was overcast and threatening, and drizzling rain shortly after noon prevented the game being restarted until 3.15 p.m. When play was resumed India, with a first innings lead of 13 runs, had seven wickets down for 80 in their second turn at the crease. The Indian tail-enders were soon dismissed, and England was left with 107 to secure for victory. Mitchell (Yorkshire) was out for "a duck," but Gimblett and Turnbull patiently scored the required number of runs, leaving the Englishmen winners by nine wickets. Gimblett, playing in his first international—and in his second year of first-class cricket— ; was very confident. He hit 11 boundaries in 100 minutes at the wicket. Scores: — INDIA. LARWOOD'S BENEFIT.
M.C.C. GIVES 25 GUINEAS. LONDON, June 30. The Marylebone Cricket Club has contributed 25 guineas to Harold Larwood's benefit fund. The Notts v. Yorkshire game, at Nottingham on July IS, 20 and 21, has been allocated for the purpose. Larwood personally and gracefully acknowledged the donation, says the "Sketch," which asks: "Is this the first step toward bridging the gulf between Larwood and Marylebone ? It can be made so, but only by Larwood himself, who, since the breach, has twice refused invitations to play for England. The next step is Larwood's. The door is open wide for his return to the England team."
