THE WEEK'S WORK.

THE FLOWER GARDEN. Prepare the ground for planting hedges, shrubs and trees. The general planting of shrubs and trees can be done. Prepare new Rose beds. Rose planting can be done. Loosen the soil between Anemones and Ranunculi. Keep the old stools of Chrysanthemums weeded. _ Stir the soil between bulbs. A light forking if ground is very weedy is advisable. The overhaul and renovation of the Rock Garden should be undertaken. Some of the woolly-leaved alpines will need a piece of glass over them to keep them dry. Shrubberies should be cleaned up, the soil forked over, leaves and weeds buried, and any trimming or pruning done. Trim or cut Macrocarpa and other Conifer hedges. THE GREENHOUSE. Attend carefully to watering. Use no more than is necessary. Do not attempt to force growth during the next few weeks. Primulas and Cyclamen in bud and flower will do with a little liquid manure. Transplant and pot Cinerarias as they need it. _ Watch for aphis on herbaceous Calceolarias and Cinerarias. Fumigate at first signs. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Any seed sowing of Cabbage, Cauliflower or Lettuce during the next week or so should be in boxes. Trench the portion of the garden required for root crops. Prepare ground for Potato planting. Prepare ground for sowing early Peas. These can be sown as soon as soil is in right condition. Planting and sowing should be held over for a few weeks if possible. Lift and replant the herb bed. A very sweet, interesting corner can be made of the herb bed. Fork over ground between crops of Cabbage, Turnips, etc; it is much better than weeding or hoeing at this season. Hand weed Onions. The bed for next season's crop should be prepared early. A sowing of Broad Beans can be made. Any crops of Peas through the ground should be protected by twiggy sticks. THE FRUIT GARDEN. Pruning and then spraying is the chief work. Prepare ground and plant all kinds of fruit trees. The planting of Citrus trees is best left till middle or end of July. Cultivate between the Strawberry plants. _ Do not hesitate to "clean" up the orchard, even if it means planting new trees.
