BUILDING WORK.
STATEMENT CHALLENGED
UNION SECRETARY AND M.P,
"This statement is quite contrary to fact," writes Mr. J. G. Kennerley, secretary of the Auckland Carpenters' Union, commenting on a paragraph recently published in the "Star," in which Mr. •1. O. Barclay, if.P. for Marsden. was reported to have said that "in the normal course of events many school? would have been rebuilt .. . One of the difficulties, however, was that at present there were very few carpenters out of work."
"Mr. Barclay is evidently misinformed. as this statement is quite contrary to fact," Mr. Kennerley writes. "Ihis is plainly shown when, during tile past few weeks, there have been several occasions where upwards of 50 carpenters have applied for work "as the result of advertisements for one or two men
"I must say that the union takes a rather serious view of such mis-state-ments as this, as members consider many of them to lie deliberate propaganda against the inception of the 40hour week."
