RUGBY FOOTBALL.

THIRD GRADE REPS. BEAT THAMES JUNIORS. The Rugby match between Auckland third grade representatives and Thames juniors, played at Thames on the King's Birthday, resulted in a comfortable win for the Auckland team, the final scores being 32 to 11. Proving superior in the set scrums in the first half, Thames obtained possession through the efforts of Watney, their hooker, but their inside backs were not of the calibre of the Auckland backs, and most of their movements were frustrated. The scores at half-time were 8 to 5 in favour of Auckland as the result of two tries by Overington, one of which he converted, and a try by Price, of Thames, converted by Grey.

In tlie second half the Auckland scrum showed great improvement, and with the backs receiving good service from Longley at half-back, many fine runs took place. In this spell Auckland scored six tries, of which three were converted, the scorers being Harris (2), Prentice and Skeen (3). The three conversions were all by Overington. Thames scores in this half were two penalty kicks by Grey as a result of over-eagerness by the Auckland forwards.

The final score, as stated above, was Auckland 32, Thames 11.
