IN A PIG PEN.

MAN HELPLESSLY DRUNK. "NO FIXED OCCUPATION." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Friday. When Thomas Vincent Wheatley, an Australian, aged 44, appeared at the Police Court to-day, charged with drunkenness, Sergeant T. Kelly said defendant had sunk so low that he was found helplessly drunk in a pig pen at the Te Awamutu railway yards. It had cost the State nearly £25 in various expenses to redeem him from his lapse. "It would not be worth the paper it was written on," added Mr. Kelly, when defendant offered to take out a prohibition order. "He flits about from place to place, and has no fixed occupation." Wheatley was convicted and ordered to pay costs totalling £27 17/6.
