SKIER FAREWELLED.
SPORT IN DOMINION". "Within a few years skiers in New Zealand will be able to hold their own with those of Europe," eaid Mr. S. A. Kaaten, Norwegian skier, who was yesterday farewelled at a luncheon given by the Ruapehu Ski Club at Milne and Choyce's tearooms. Mr. Kaaten, who is now a resident of Sydney, has been on a business visit to the Dominion. He is the winner of a number of Australian ski championships. Mr. A. D. Mead, who presided, and who is patron of the Ruapehu Club, and Mr. N. E. Good, president of the Alpine Sports Club, both expressed the hope that Mr. Kaaten would be able to return to New Zealand to take part in the inter-Dominion contests to be held on Mount Ruapehu in August.
■In reply, Mr. Kaaten said that his experience of ski-ing in both hemispheres had convinced him that the enthusiasm for the sport in New Zealand and Australia was not eclipsed in any other port of the world.
