STREET LIGHTING.
DEVON PORT IMPROVEMENTS. At last niglit's meeting of tlie Devonport Borough Council it was decided co accept the offer of the Waitemata Electric Power Board to light the main thoroughfare from Fleet Street to Lake Road boundary with sodium lamps of 100 watt power, at an extra annual cost of foO 10/.
The Mayor, Mr. 11. F. W. Meiklc, said all councillors appreciated what the board had done in the matter. In the past the council had to reduce the numbers of street- lights in order to save money, but now the time had been reached when a more up-to-date schemc of lighting had to lie installed. To-day, with rapidly moving traffic, pedestrians wanted all possible protection. The council must advance with the times and make the streets safe for pedestrians.
