HOW TO ACT.
WAGES RESTORATION.
RETROSPECTIVE PAYMENTS.
ADVICE TO EMPLOYERS.
The question as to what line of action they should follow in view of the announcement by the Government that after the winter recess legislation will be passed to the effect that wages must be restored to the 1931 level, and that the legislation is to be made retrospective to July 1, is concerning many firms in Auckland.
Questioned concerning the matter this morning, Mr. J. S. Dawes, president of the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association, said that the legislation mentioned would not be passed until some time in August, and details of the proposals were not known. "Until more information is available," said Mr. Dawes, "it is extremely difficult to advise employers as to the couise they should follow beyond stating that, in estimating costs for the coming period, employers should take the 1931 rates of pay into consideration and establish a reserve from which retrospective wages can be paid when the legislation becomes law."
