DEMAND COLONIES.
Hitler May Ask for Lost
Territories,
i SACRIFICE TO SOUTH AFRICA,
LONDON, June 17
Herr Hitler is now formulating Germany's colonial demands from the Allied Powers, says the Berlin correspondent of the "News Chronicle."
At a special meeting of the Reichstag, the date of which will be fixed this week, it is believed he will demand returii of Togoland, the Cameroons and the former German East Africa (now Tanganyika), but not South-West Africa, because "the German Government is anxious to maintain friendly relations with the South African Government."
The German Press now is allowed to discuss the colonial issue freely.
BRITISH ATTITUDE. TO SOUTH AFRICA'S FUTURE. British Official Wireless. (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, June 17. The position of the South African protectorates was the subject of a Parliamentary reply by the UnderSecretary for the Dominions, the Marquess of Hartington. He recalled the aide-memoire published after conversations between the Dominions Secretary and the Prime Minister of the Union last year, which stated that the policy both of the British and South African Governments for the next few years should be directed to bringing about a situation in which, if a transfer were to become a matter of practical politics, it could be effected with the full acquiescence of the populations concerned.
He added: "This still represents the policy of the Government here, and I have nothing to add to that statement."
GOERING'S RIVAL.
GIVEN POLICE CHIEFSHIP. (Received 1 p.m.) BERLIN, June 17. Herr Hitler has appointed General Goering's rival, Heinrich Himmler, to be general of the German Police, with General Daluege as his deputy. General Goering will retain his generalship of the Prussian Police.
