AUSTRA LI AN CONVERSION (Received J'J..">o p.m.) LONDON. .Tune* 17. '"The Times'' city correspondent says i the Australian loan has recovered nearly j to par. AUSTRALIAN LOAN. CANBERRA, June 17. The Commonwealth's internal loan of £9,000.000 closed £1.800,000 short, the amount subscribed being £7,200,000. The underwriters will make good the shortage. The Treasurer, Mr. R. G. Casey, states that the subscribers numbered 70i>0. He says the failure to obtain the full amount is attributed to the improvement in business conditions, more outside avenues being available now for the investment oi capital than during the depression.
