BUSINESS KEEPS UP. INSURANCES FIRM. Cilice last report there has been a satisfactory turnover on the local Stock Exchange. At this morning's call insurances presented a very firm front, with inquiries for all issues. South British gained another Gd, with business at £4 12, 6 and more wanted, with sellers up to £4 13/3, and buyers for New Zealands at 4J3 4/ were met with a reserve of £3 5, (>. Nationals were linn between 18,4 and IS, 7. Banks were very quiet, being almost completely neglected. New Zealands were on offer at £2 2/9, with no buyers in tight. Coal shares were in demand, with buyers for nine separate issues, and a few buyers came into tiie timber section, Kauris being close to business from £1 3, (J to £1 3/7. There was a good demand for a big list of Australian issues, but buyers were less keen, and Broken Hills were quoted between £3 10/ and £3 10/9. Buyers for Berlei (X.Z.) moved up to £3 1/ without attracting holders. ileKeudricks had business at 3d lower, at £1 0/3, after which the market lay between 19/ and £1 1/3. Government stocks fluctuated slightly, sales showing an improvement in '40's and a slight easing in '40's and '4D's. Bank of New Zealands Weak.. The weaker tendency in Bank of New Zealands was further revealed in the quotations, £2 1/0 and £2 2/3, at the noon c;..i. In the insurance section buyers of Xew Zealands moved up to £3 4/0, and sellers of South British came in at £4 13/3. Kauris had buyers at £1 3/5, after a transaction 2d above yesterday's rate. Broken Hills lost a further shilling, after which buyers stopped at £3 !)/G. Consolidated Bricks had weak offers at 9/3. and the tone of industrials generally showed an easing in values.
