CLASSIC CLUB.
The Classic Club's fifth meeting of the season was held last evening when an interesting programme of music by French and miscellaneous composers was given. Members who contributed items were:—Miss Gwenda Weir, who sang an operatic aria, "Depuis lc jour" (Charpcntier) and a cycle of seven "Gipsy Songs" (Dvorak); Miss Freda Tibbutt, who sang three Hebridean songs, "The Wind on the Moor," "Kirsten," "The Cockle Gatherer" (arranged M. Kenncdy-Fraser); and Miss Beryl Smith, who contributed contralto solos "To a Nightingale," "Sapphic Ode," "The Forge" (Brahms), and two operatic arias, "0 Love from Thy Power" (Saint-Saens), "Habanera" from "Carmen" (Bizet). Mr. John Ford sang "The Daisy's Song" (Taylor), "Madrigal" (Howells), "Psyche" (Paladilhe), "Obstination" (Fontenailles). Mr. J. T. Gibeon presented "Silent Noon" (Vaughan Williams), "The Star" (Rogers), "Lord Randall" (Cyril Scott) and "Loving Smile of Sister Kind" (Gounod). Pianoforte solos, "The Island Spell" (Ireland), "Country Gardens" (Grainger) t "Reflets dans l'eau" (Debussy) were contributed by Miss Loma Reed, and instrumental trios, "Andante" from Trio No. 3 (Rubenstein), "Serenade" (Faure) were presented by Miss Daphne Higliam (violin), Miss Betty Fenton ('cello), Mrs. Maud Lvsaght (piano) and Mr. Roger Fenton (viola). The accompanists for the evening wore Dr. S. K. Phillips and Mr. Alan Povv.
