SIGNWRITER AT ' OTAHUHU. ADJOURNMENT OF INQUEST: Mr. Richard Edelsten, a sign writer, aged 54, was knocked down and killed by a train at the Otajiuhu railway station yesterday morning. Mr. Edelsten left his home at 7.30 a.m. to catch a train to the city and was seen on the railway platform at about eight o'clock. Although train* left Otahuhu for the city at 8.12 and 8.15, he did not catch either of these and was seen standing by the goods shed across the jails. A train was stiindin? on the eastern side of the station and deceased was seen crossing the rails towards it. When the train pulled out at B.IS the guard felt a bump, stopped the train and found deceased under n ■carriage. He was sufferins: from a crushed chest and severe bodily injuries and was dead when removed from under the train. <Dr. Griflen was immediately summoned and pronounced, life extinct. The deceased, who presided at 14, High Street, Otahuhu, leaves a widow and two children. He served in the Australian forces during the war and occasionally siiffered from the effects of shell shock. . An inquest was opened yesterday afternoon before the district , coroner. Mr. J. V. Lawes, and after evidence of identification ...had - been, given, by deceased's son the; inquest was adjourned sine die. Sergeant Cahill represented the police at the inquest.
