OLD ENGLISH CUSTOM WHICH GOES BACK TO ALFRED THE GREAT.—The beating of the bounds of the Tower of London place only once in three §ears, the ceremony falling due this year on May 21, Ascension Day. The Chief Warder leading the procession out of the Tower precincts on a perambulation of the Bounds .of the Tower Liberties. Choir boys and children who live in the Tower follow, carrying peeled willow wands, and after them again the Warders of the Tower in their quaint uniforms.
