WINGATUI TRACK.
AN OFF MORN INQ. (By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. It was an off morning at Wingntui, very little fast galloping being done. This was partially 011 account of a very hard frost, and all work \vm confined to the plough and tan track. Costume and Night Wings ran six furlongs in 1.23 2-3, the last three 111 42 3-ss. The latter was going much the better at the finish. Most of the locally-trained horses were let off with half to threequarter pace work, though Umtali, who will be a starter on the second day, was given a strong working gallop over a circuit, and was anxious to improve the pace, which was about 15s to the furlong. The Smuggler, who is also a likely starter in the Otago Hurdles, worked well.
Travenna showed no signs of lameness after his good gallop on Tuesday, and was let off with cantering exercise.
Daring Deed looks better than she has done at any stage of the present season, but with her stable mate. Half Note, was given only three-quarter pace work.
