SCATHING ATTACK.
British Secretary of State For War. "DANGEROUS SCAREMONGER." (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, June 10. "If I were Prime Minister I would have Mr. Duff-Cooper, Secretary for War, arrested as a deliberate, dangerous and disgraceful scaremonger,'' declared Lord Ponsonbv, amid applause and shouts of "that's the stuff to give him," when addressing the peace meeting at Cardiff. He was referring to Mr. Duff-Cooper's speech of yesterday, and ho added: "Mr. Duff-Cooper is not the only person talking this way, but owing to his responsible position he ought to be ashamed to talk like a half-wit whose only place is a criminal asylum."
"Nobody with the slightest knowledge can deny that the situation in Europe is far worse than it was in 1014," said Mr. Duff-Cooper at a' trade luncheon yesterday, "yet we are joking and laughing and refusing to face the facts. We allow people to preach that it is wicked to defend women and children from gas attacks. We are told that we are frightening people. I think it is the duty of those in authority to frighten people."
