THE PEDESTRIAN'S DREAM.

I have noted Mr. John A. Lees remarks on the right of a pedestrian to dream with some anmsement. As a motorist, who probably spends more time driving' a car than the average pedestrian spends in pedestrianatin<r, have I not as mucli right to be dreaming when the pedestrian and I meet as he has ? It must be remembered that there are a number of places where it is fairly safe to dream, and even standing still on the footpath can be considered one of them, few motorists will bother to go after a pedestrian there; and it really isn't much trouble for the pedestrian to wake up when he gets a jolt as he steps off the footpath at an intersection. After all. the motorist has to stop dreaming long before he gets to the intersection, unless he wants to finish his dream in the Auckland Hospital. JOHX R.

As Jt motorist of some experience, I would like to remind Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., and others that a motor driver is also a human being. If a motorist dreams, and an accident occurs, he is prosecuted. The punishment he receives is merited. I am not decrying legislation for safeguarding all users of the roads, but I do feel tlmt Mr. Lee would be better employed educating and advising pedestrians that it is not safe to dream in places where, sooner or later, they will be brought to earth. Mr. Lee may then feel he has done some good in perhaps having saved a life even at the expense of some" popularity as the pedestrians' champion. MOTORIST.
