POPULAR AND INTERESTING COMPETITION. Tempted by a simple yet interesting competition and spurred on by the chance of winning one of the 24 splendid prizes offered, a large number of competitors submitted lists of "G's in the picture." Barron Baylis, of Whangarei, a fourteen-year-old, captured first place with a corrected list of 36 objects. Many there were who submitted considerably longer original lists, but the blue pencil of the judge was demanded in most cases, come competitors having their lists reduced by nearly twenty objects. Ah, me, it is indeed strange what can be classed as an "object" for competitive purposes. Unfortunately for many people the judge had it very firmly fixed in his mind just what was an object and what was not. Here is the list of the 24 other contestants who have been awarded prizes. In each ct-se the prize awarded is the one which the entrant specified:— Geraldine Keigh, Mount Albert, autograph album; Rita Sangar, St. Helier's. penknife; Jocelyn Tonks.
