CYCLING.
AMONG THE AMATEURS. LYNNDALE CLUB. HANDICAPS FOR SATURDAY. On Saturday the Lynndale amateurs journeyed over the harbour to race with the Takapuna Club.in the annual invitation race. Eleven Lynndale seniors and twelve juniors made the journey, 'but onlyone Takapuna member rode in the senior race, the latter club's entry being very disappointing. Twenty in all contested the junior race. Lynndale with their 11 to 1 majority could not win the senior event, Takapuna's only entry outsprinting Gordon Robertson by a length. Gordon Robertson has had a much more successful season this year, having had a number of iplaeings, whereas last year he did not have one place. Baillie Scott was third. In the sprint Baillie was badly beaten by the winner and Robertson. Graham Hughes was the fastest of the four scratch men. There was only a length separating Hughes, Gooder and Willis.
In the junior event Bob Smith was second after riding off the limit with A. Broad (Takapuna). This effort is easily Bob's 'best, and Harry Davies (third oil the 1.30 mark) rode a_ good race, being filet of the back markers to finish. All the Lynndale junior scratch men were badly outclassed by E. Langridge (Takapuna), the latter being a very promising lad. All the Lynndale members found the going very fast after their own circuit at New Lynn, but this race should be very beneficial to them. A number of the members have entered for the big Takapuna race on the King s Birthday. This year Lynndale have only to show a, slight improvement on last year's form to win the teams shield. On Saturday two short races will be conducted—a 4%-mile (one lap), junior and a 13%-mile (three laps) senior. The junior race starts at 2 p.m. and the senior at 2.30 p.m. All members are reminded that tiie training night on the rollers at the secretary's residence is Tuesday., All members and intending members are welcome.
