POTATO MARKET.
INQUIRIES FOR EXPORT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHHISTCHUKCH, Tuesday. Several inquiries liave been received in Christchureh for a shipment of potatoes to the Argentine and Uruguay. Xo sales have yet been made, but as tlie South American crop is short this year merchants hope the ncgotia&ions now in progress will end in exporP' orders being booked. About 2000 tons of New Zealand potatoes, nearly all from Canterbury, were shipped to the order of the Uruguayan Clover anient in 1933. The price received varied then from £5 10/ to £7 a ton. f.o.b. Merchants in Wellington and Timaru have also received inquiries. If orders are booked the export business would have the effect of steadying the market.
