SEARCH FOR OIL.
EAST COAST ACTIVITIES. STATE NOT" INVOLVED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A denial that the State intended. to search for oil on the East Coast was made by the Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb. Mr. Webb says he wants it made clear that he made no such announcement. He recently had referred to the intensive investigation by experts of the East Coast oilfields, but he gave no indication that the investigation or experts would be in any way associated with the Government. The activities, if they eventuate, he said, would be entirely sponsored by private interests. Mr. Webb said he had not been approached with any request for financial assistance from* the Government towards the cost of the investigation or any subsequent operations.
