ROAD TRAGEDY.

AFTER A FUNERAL. MARRIED FARMER KILLED. SECOND GRAVELY HURT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. Tragedy overtook a party of six Wairau Valley farmers last evening when they were returning to their homes in a motor car after attending a funeral in Blenheim. Within a couple of miles of the Wairau Valley township, on a straight, wide stretch of highway, the car, which was driven by Mr. George Gordon Davidson, collided with a lorry laden with timber. As a result of the collision Mr. Leonard Leslie Hart, a married mail with oiii: child, was killed instantaneously, while Mr. Davidson himself is not expected to live. Both men received fearful head injuries, when the body of the car, a big sedan, was practically ripped off the chassis. Evidently the bodywork of the car struck the men on the heads with shock - iiig consequences. The four other occu pants had a marvellous escape in the circumstances, suffering only severe shock.

The accident occurred just after dark. It can only be assumed that the driver of the ill-fated car miscalculated the margin to pass the lorry, with the result that the windscreen .hit the timber alongside the cab of the lorry, which was driven by Mr. Mervyn Prentice.
