STILL A SHORTAGE.
WATER IN MANUREWA AREA. SUNDAY RAIN INSUFFICIENT. Despite the fact that the dry spell would seem to have broken, there is still a shortage of water at Manurewa, where at the height of the rainless and windless weather the position was serious. A report presented last night at a meeting of the Manurewa Town Board stated that the rain that fell on Sunday was not sufficient to meet domestic requirements. The board, though, has the matter in hand, and a commission set up under the Health Act is holding an inquiry. The report added that S7 homes had been supplied with water from the bore on the bowling green in the past fortnight. The fact that domestic supplies would not be met, however, in some instances, was attributed to the fact that the roof areas of some houses was small —particularly those about Homai— while others had spouting only halfway round the roofs. Further cartage of water will be required again soon. Jlr. J. Edwards said that the rainfall over the week-end had only slightly relieved the position. "After to-day's washing is finished most homes will again be short,'' he added.
