DIESEL-ENGINED CAR.

The first Diesel-engincd car to lie imported into Australia arrived in Adelaide recently, and was driven to Melbourne oyer the Prince's highway. Before the car left Adelaide, officials of the Royal Automobile Club of South Australia sealed the fuel tank, which was opened under official observation in Melbourne. Measurements showed that the car, which had a 221 h.p. Diesel engine, averaged 20J miles a gallon on fuel oil costing about 7d a gallon. The car I weighs more than two tons complete. ! With the top gear ratio increased to 31 to 1, the car had a top speed of over 70 miles an hour, and a good acceleration. Three or four other cars are operating with Diesel engines in Australia, but these were all converted locally.
