WINTER RACING.

WANGANUI CLUB. THE FIRST DAY. LIST OF ACCEPTORS. The Wanganui Jockey Club will open their winter meeting at Wanganui on Saturday, and it will be concluded on the following Tuesday. Good fields are engaged in the large majority of events on the first day, and with fine weather the fixture should be a most successful one. The form will be watched with interest in view of the Wellington and Grand National meetings which follow during the next few weeks. The betting will be the single pool system, and in addition to the figures being shown on the totalisator a dividend barometer will also be in operation. In the Century Hurdles Soloist has top 0 weight, but he has not much form recently. He failed to win at the Great Northern meeting, his best effort being third in the Campbell Hurdles, in which he had 11.4. Chile has scored up to a mile and a quarter on the flat recently, and last season he won three hurdle races, the Styx Hurdles at the Grand National meeting, and two at Feilding. Speed was successful over hurdles at Foxton, while Manawatu has also shown good form over the battens, and his third in the Hiiwke s Bav Steeplechase last week shows that he is about at his best again. Silk Sox was 6econd at Egmont, and was third in the Waikato Hurdles, though he was unsuccessful at the Great Northern meeting. Sporting Song won the Panmure Hurdles at Ellerslie, while Euaform looks the best of the others. Some who may be fancied are: Chile, Manawatu, Speed and Sporting

Song. Cotsfield is at the head of the Grandstand Steeplechase, and after his success at Hastings on Saturday will not lack for support. Tangled won well at Ellerslie, and is a most promising 'chaser. Debut has been a bit sore lately, while Invictus lias had experience over country, and was third in a hurdle event at the last Feilding meeting. Windsor Lad won well at Waipa. but was not started at the Great Northern meeting. Kaola appeals most of the others. Cotsfield, Tangled and Windsor Lad may appeal most just now.
