Despite the presence of eight British battalions and promulgation of the death penalty, the disturbances continue, including attacks on trains, convoys and escorts. The Arabs are determined to continue hostile demonstrations until Jewish immigration is terminated. Police have offered £14,000 in rewards for information which leads to the arrest of murderers of 23 Jews, three Arabs, Constable Bird and an Austrian, who have been killed since the outbreak of disturbances. People in several districts have spent disturbed nights. Rifles and machineguns have been in action in Eastern Esdraelon for the third night in succession. When marauders attacked several Jewish settlements ' troops replied to their fire. Military aeroplanes were flown over the settlements and illuminated the district. The Arabs retreated, carrying off their casualties. ' Twenty Arabs at Nablus ambushed a patrol of the Seafortli Highlanders who captured a wounded man. The High Commissioner, Sir Arthur Waueliope, has authorised regulations providing the death penalty or imprisonment for life for terrorism, including firing upon troops, throwing bombs with intent to cause death or injury, damage to property and interference with railways, roads, telephones and other communications. Also the regulations empower imposition of collective fines, confiscation of property where persons have instigated such offences or have not assisted the authorities in discovering the offenders. 11l a disturbance near the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, a native constable fired, killing an Arab. A deputation from the higher Arab Committee is going to London immediately with the intention of explaining to the British Government the grounds for the present unrest among the Arabs.
