r WEEK OPENS BRIGHTLY. i BETTER TONE FOR BANKS. A new week opened briskly 011 the Auckland Stock Exchange, and a good list of sales was finalised at the first call. After a lengthy period of dullness banks showed some movement. There were more buyers about. New South Wales had a sale 2/6 higher, at £32 7/6, after which the market rested between £32 5/ and £32 12/6. New Zealands had their first sale ex dividend, being placed practically unchanged, after allowance for the dividend, at £2 4/. The market was easy, and there were further offers at the sale price, with buyers back to £2 3/8. Australian issues opened up well, with buyers for Hume Pipe at £1 0/3, Glass at £4 13/. Broken Hill had business at £3 12/6, unchanged, while I'Jectvolytic Zincs firmed 3d, .with a sale at £1 lb/o, leaving buyers iu for the ordinaries at the sale price and at £2 for the preferences. Dominion Breweries improved, touching a new high level at £1 6/. Government stocks showed little change, but the '55's were quoted ex dividend, buyers at £104. Mount Morgans Advance. A smaller list of sales was put through at noon, but the tone of the market continued firm. The main features were rises in Dominion Breweries and -Mount Morgans. J'"or Mount Morgans 3d more was paid than at the end of last week, and buyers were still in the. market at the higher figure, with sellers asking Id above. There was an unsatisfied demand for Dominion Breweries at the rise: of 3d, and holders stood off at £1 6/9. Consolidated Bricks were available at Id lower the morning call, and Woolworths (N.Z.) were asked for at 5/ higher. Among the banks New Zealands had slightly easier buyers' at £2 3/G.
