AROUND THE LINKS.

GOOD SCORING CONTINUES. LINKS IN FINE ORDER. JUNIOR'S PERFORMANCE AT MIDDLEMORE. With the courses in most exceptionally fine condition, good scoring continued in the competitions over the week-end, and it was quite a common thing for players to better their handicaps. At Middlemore, after their performances in the first'round of the Blonnifield Bowl, several players were brought down. It is not unusual for the best net card to be under 70 and on Saturday J. I'. Upton, one of the younger players, put himself in a splendid position for winning the event with a net 67. A dozen other players were also under the scratch score of tne course. After defeating J. P. Aldred (7) during the week-end in the semi-final of the captain's prize, with a round o: 77, S- 11. Abel accounted for A. Beddingtoll. the match going to the nineteenth. Both players had a medal round of 82. The othef semi-final has yet to.be played, C. Jacohscu (7) meeting H. M. (Morrie) McCoy (16). The last-named player lias made extraordinary improvement during the last month and yesterday afternoon had a surprising round of 77 gross in a four-ball bogey. His partner, Wilson, gave him a little assistance and the pair were 8 up. McCoy has been reduced to 13, but will meet Jacobsen on 16. At Titirangi R. R. McCryetal provided the highlight of the afternoon in the first round of the Ballin Cup by turning apparent defeat into victory. MeCrystal was 6 down at the turn, but came home brilliantly in 35 to win at the eighteenth. At Maungakiekie J. Pelham continues to play good golf and had a round of 75, net 69, on Saturday. S. Booth and H. Wiggins played much better than their handicaps, too, at Akarana, where J. W. Coney won the Roskill Cup.
