BEAUTIFUL SCENES.

PICTURE AND STORY. i ROTARIANS ENTERTAINED. I Scenery typical of Britain and of New Zealand was depicted to-day by Mr. Alan C. Browne, F.R.G.S. and A.R.CA., mountaineer and lecturer, In an address delivered to Auckland Rotarians in Milne and Chovce's reception liall. The subjects covered in an illustrated talk' were taken from the English lake district. from North Wales and from the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The charm of the English countryside wis well depicted in views of farm life, old-fashioned village churches, and ot Conway Castle, the last mentioned in daylight and by floodlight- The New Zealand views were chiefly centred around Franz Joseph and the Fox glaciers, whilst a particularly striking picture showed a range of the highest peaks of the Alps reflected in the waters of Lake Mathieson. There was a large gathering at tno luncheon, with an ex-president, Rotarian Syd. Harbutt, in the chair. Amongst the visitors were: Canon M. . Jones (Hastings) and Messrs. A. C. Browne (England), J. McDowell (Rotorua) and T. B. Gusscott (Melbourne). Rotarian Geo. Buckley was elected a past-service member. The vote of thanks was moved bv Rotarian Amos Thompson.
